Class Action Lawyer

A class action lawsuit is one in which a lawsuit is brought by one party on behalf of a group of individuals all having the same grievance. Another definition of class action lawsuits is " "groups of people suffering similar harm or losses caused by corporate misconduct, consumer frauds, defective products, business frauds and discrimination." Typically the damages awarded in a class action lawsuit are tremendous - sometimes in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Examples of class action lawsuits include:

  • patients prescribed a medicine with undisclosed side-effects
  • residents affected by a toxic spill or environmental disaster
  • employees of a corporation who have been subject to racial, age, or gender discrimination
  • investors who are victimized by fraud committed in stock transactions
  • merchants and consumers who pay inflated prices due to anti-competitive activities of corporations

Though the details of all class action cases may differ, there are two criteria that always hold true in a class action suit: (1) the damage has been done to all parties, and (2) the persons affected are so numerous as to make it impracticable to bring them all before the court. Many class action lawsuits are started as the result of one or a few persons that affect many other people. There are many firms specializing in class action suits. If you feel that you have been the victim of wrongdoing, please contact a lawyer to find out how to proceed.
